Where does St Nicholas live?

gdzie mieszka święty mikołaj Where does St Nicholas live?

Christmas is coming, so I decided to prepare something festive. It doesn't matter if you believe in Santa or not, writing a letter won't hurt. But after transferring the innermost dreams to paper, the matter of delivering a letter to the Saint remains. And then you ask yourself: Where does St Nicholas live?

Where does St Nicholas live?

1.Mira in Lycia (Turkey)

The original saint lived at the turn of the third and fourth century, although we do not know for sure, because the first historical records date from the sixth century. He had rich parents, and after their death, he gave away all the property to the poor. He was also very pious and, according to legend, he became a bishop because he was the first to come to church on the day of choosing a new priest.
It existed or not, the idea of giving and helping others survived. And the Mira itself is medieval ruins today ( more information on the city website ) near the modern city Demre, which lies in Turkish Anatolia. It is hardly associated with Santa Claus among snows and with reindeers, right?

2. Rovaniemi in Lapland (Finland)

This is probably the most known, international and official seat of Saint Nicholas. In addition, here you can come and sit on the real lap of the Saint (photo of a trifle 20 euros). Every year, 300-500 thousand people use this opportunity. Although the residents and originator of the location Finnish journalist Markus Rautio (1927) swear that the house is located in the mysterious Korvatunturi (Ear Mountain), but since 1985 the main seat is a village located 8 kilometres from the centre of the Lapland capital, Rovaniemi.  And all these thanks to … the first lady of the United States, Eleanor Roosevelt, who in 1950 wanted to go for the Arctic Circle. Then a hut was built for her, which gave rise to Santa's Village , and today it houses in it a post office.

Of course, Santa does not do everything alone – he has a lot of elves to help. To become an elf of Santa, you must pass an exam at the Elven School. I'm not kidding, even elves write classbooks 🙂

The village can be visited virtually the whole year, and in addition to Santa, reindeer, etc., they have a lot of offers for other seasons than winter. You can see the details on the their website .

Is it worth writing a letter to Santa? Every year, he receives about 700,000 letters a year, and since 1985 he has already received 15 million from 198 countries. He tries to answer the most interesting, so it's worth trying to write. And most importantly – address:

3. Srebrna Góra (Poland)

Yes, Saint Nicholas also lives in Poland. And exactly in Srebrna Góra , in the municipality of Stoszowice. What's more, the whole village of Saints Nicholases is also there. And they are also trying to fulfill the dreams of most children who write letters to the following address:

Biuro Listów do Świętego Mikołaja
Wioska Świętego Mikołaja
Przystanek Mikołajów
57-215 Srebrna Góra

Gdzie mieszka święty Mikołaj? A czy Ty byłeś grzeczny w tym roku? Na pewno? Where does St Nicholas live? And were you polite this year? For sure?

4. Norway, Denmark and Sweden

All Scandinavian countries claim the right to have at least one seat of Saint Nicholas. The letter can be written to the following addresses:

Julenissen's Postkontor Torget 4
1440 Drobak
Norway

Drobak is located 35 kilometers from Oslo. Link to the page, mainly in Norwegian.

Julenissen i Norge
2500 Savalen
Norway

In addition to Santa, we can come across the Black Gnome here. Link to page, only in Norwegian.

He has his workshop in Greenland, at the foot of the Uummannaq mountain (territory of Denmark). Swedes write to the city of Mora and the village Tomteland , where a workshop and school for reindeer operate.

5. Germany

Germany is not Scandinavia, but also envied its neighbors from the North. They gave their Mr Beard shelter in the city of Furstenberg on the Havel. This Santa responds to letters in 16 languages, including Polish. Link to page , in German.

Christmas wishes

With the upcoming Christmas (or a more pop-culture Christmas Star for those who do not celebrate) and the New Year, I would like to wish all children a lot of presents and curiosity about the world, young people successful exams, classrooms, etc., and find their passion and realizing it in it, and parents of angelic patience and ingenuity. After all, everyone else will wish you health and money 🙂

Sending a letter to Santa is one thing, but getting a return card is another. To make sure that it comes, you need to try extra. Such pleasure costs 8.50 euros and cards are sent twice a year – in December and March. Link to the store Rovaniemi, Polish version. Admittedly, Santas write back and send gifts, but everything is a matter of scale and funds ….

I will add from myself that writing a letter with a parent is the best way to learn about children's dreams without destroying their faith in a bellied gentleman with a beard. 🙂
